About this event
Featured Community Event: 50501 National Mobilization Day "All of U.S. 250" rallies nationwide.
On April 29, the U.S. Supreme Court dealt a major blow to Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. In a 6-3 ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, the Court held that the Act did not require the state to create an additional majority-minority congressional district, making it far harder for voters of color to challenge maps that dilute their political power.
Within days, Louisiana’s governor suspended the state’s ongoing primary election to redraw congressional maps.
Alabama immediately filed to reinstate maps a lower court had struck down for diluting Black votes.
One ruling has already landed. Another is coming. The Supreme Court is expected to decide Trump v. Barbara, the birthright citizenship case, by late June or early July.
Both decisions will frame the weeks leading up to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Federal agencies have been scrubbing civil rights history from government websites and programs.
Americans across the country will march, rally, and gather for "All of U.S. 250", a national day of action, on June 27. Organizers include Fifty Fifty One, the Women's March, and more.
This is not a League of Women Voters event.
